Saintly Women of Modern Times
Are you a woman looking for a small group that really speaks to your experience as a woman in the Church today? Join other like-minded ladies to gather and discuss on a monthly basis the challenges and graces of living a virtuous life in our current personal vocations by following Jesus. To learn to become holy women truly immersed by living in this world, but as Jesus tells us not being of this world. (John 17:6). This group will be reading the book "Saintly Women of Modern Times" by Joan Carroll Cruz. Here’s a synopsis of the book:
Most female saints familiar to Catholics today belonged to religious orders and lived long ago. But a number of lesser-known women of more recent times have also achieved exemplary holiness as lay Christians who made an impact on the world. They serve as role models for women today who struggle with the difficulties of everyday life in secular surroundings. In Saintly Women of Modern Times, best-selling author Joan Carroll Cruz presents portraits of seventy-five Catholic women from the past century whose extraordinary holiness set them on the path to sainthood. Their circumstances varied widely…but all of them lived and died for the love of God and others.
We'll meet on the 3rd Saturdays of the month, beginning November 18th at 9am in the St. Clare Room (in the Parish Center). You can purchase a book on your own, or pick up a copy in the Faith Formation Office for $20. Questions? Contact Kathy Van Tries at kvantries@comcast.net.
