First Confession and First Communion Preparation

Are you an adult who needs First Confession and First Communion? See our OCIA page!

Youth preparation for First Confession and First Communion at Holy Redeemer is incorporated into the regular faith formation classes, with monthly sacramental preparation classes for the younger children. Middle and High School aged youth generally participate in their regular Faith Formation classes and attend sacrament-focused retreats. First Sacraments preparation typically occurs once a child reaches the age of reason: 7 years (around 2nd grade), however, since we require at least one year of religious education immediately prior the sacramental preparation year, make sure to get your children enrolled in classes during their 1st Grade year!

What the Program Looks Like

  • Must have been registered in faith formation classes for at least one year prior to the year child is expected to receive his/her First Sacraments with 80% attendance (two years total).

  • Must be in second grade or above.

  • Turn in a copy of the child's Baptism Certificate

  • Attend/participate in regular Sunday Faith Formation classes 80% of the time

  • Attend/participate in the Sacramental Prep meetings. One meeting per month - at least one parent/guardian must attend with youth.

  • Attend the rehearsal - at least one parent/guardian must attend with youth.

How To Sign Up

  • Begin by registering your student for their “grade level” Faith Formation class, and we will follow up with instruction for registering for First Reconciliation and First Communion Preparation.

    • Please only do this if the child has completed one, full, proximate, year of Faith Formation with 80% attendance AND has been baptized.  If your child needs baptism, see the Baptism page here.
